Dr. José Manuel Gutiérrez,

This is Ping Yang from CUNY Environmental Crossroads Initiative, The City College of New York - CUNY, I am working with Prof. Charles Vorosmarty on the Northeast United states Earth System Model project, I read the Technical Note "User Guide of ENSEMBLES Downscaling Portal(version 2)" and I have several questions:

Is that possible to use ENSEMBLES to downscale 2m air temperature, total precipitation, cloud cover, solar radiation, wind speed and humidity at the 3 minutes*3 minutes spatial resolution and at daily step for the Northeast U.S.?

I tried to create an experiment in ENSEMBLES but without success(the predictors are still in the validation processing for 5 days). I am not sure what I was doing is wrong or not? I would be appreciated if you can help me to do the downscaling.

Questions on how to use the ENSEMBLES:
1) how can I use the Re-analysis data instead of ERA40 data?
2)There are a list of variables (in different level) on the predictor creation, how can I select the right predictors for my experiment?
3)The predictants are limited to Tmax and Tmin and Precipitation, but no cloud cover and solar radiation and other variables are providing to select? why? and how can I get this predictants?
4)How long will it take to downscale for the 100 years (2000-2100) for the variables that I mentioned above?

Looking forwards to hearing from you.

Best Regards,

Ping Yang, Ph.D.
