v144 v145 8 8 The European Climate Observations, Modelling and Services initiative ([http://www.eu-ecoms.eu ECOMS]) coordinates the activities of three ongoing European projects ([http://www.euporias.eu EUPORIAS], [http://www.specs-fp7.eu SPECS] and [http://naclim.zmaw.de NACLIM]). Different sector-specific impact activities to be undertaken in these projects require a reduced number of variables (typically at surface, but also at pressure levels for downscaling purposes) from different data sources (seasonal/decadal forecasts, reanalysis, etc.) with different terms of use (publicly available, available for ECOMS partners, etc.). 9 9 10 As part of the data management activities in these projects, the [http://www.meteo.unican.es Santander Meteorology Group (UC-CSIC)] has established the ''ECOMS User Data Gateway'' ('''ECOMS UDG''') to provide a single access point to collections of impact-relevant variables, gathered from existing state-of-the-art datasets (see the available [wiki: SpecsEuporias/DataServer/Datasets datasets] and [wiki:SpecsEuporias/DataServer/ListOfVariables variables]). The '''ECOMS UDG''' is composed of a catalogue of datasets and services provided by a [https://www.unidata.ucar.edu/software/thredds/current/tds/TDS.html THREDDS data server] and a suite of tools for user-friendly data exploration, access and post-processing. A fine-grained user authorization system allows different user roles to access data sets with different data policies. Since [http://www.r-project.org R] has been adopted for a number of tasks in these projects (validation, downscaling, etc.), an R package for data exploration and access has been developed ([wiki:SpecsEuporias/RPackage useRaccess]) and additional functionalities will be developed to meet the users' needs.10 As part of the data management activities in these projects, the [http://www.meteo.unican.es Santander Meteorology Group (UC-CSIC)] has established the ''ECOMS User Data Gateway'' ('''ECOMS UDG''') to provide a single access point to collections of impact-relevant variables, gathered from existing state-of-the-art datasets (see the available [wiki:./DataServer/Datasets datasets] and [wiki:./DataServer/ListOfVariables variables]).
