    3 The User Data Gateway (UDG) is the main access point to the different data services provided by the [href://www.meteo.unican.es Santander Meteorology group]. The UDG builds on a THREDDS Data Server ([http://meteo.unican.es/udg-tds UDG-TDS]) and on a web portal for user authentication and data authorization (the [http://meteo.unican.es/udg-tap UDG-TAP]), together with a suite of packages (building mainly on R) to remotely access subsets of the data with a single command.

The UDG builds on a a THREDDS Data Server ([http://www.meteo.unican.es/udg-tds UDG-TDS]) and on a web portal for user authorization (the THREDDS Administration Portal, [http://www.meteo.unican.es/udg-tap UDG-TAP]). In addition to the standard web interface to explore and download the datasets, the UDG includes different (R and Matlab) packages for accessing remotely subsets of the data. A schematic view of the UDG is provided in the figure below.

     7The UDG supports the following international activities:

     9<li>The group <B>PULIC_DATA</B> offers a number of datasets which are in the public domain (e.g. WATCH data, NCEP reanalysis, NCEP CFSv2 seasonal forecasting hindcast).
     10<li><B>[http://www.euporias.eu EUPORIAS]</Ba>, <B>[http://www.specs-fp7.eu SPECS]</B> and <B>[http://www.naclim.eu NACLIM]</B> (the European coordination of climate services activities [http://www.eu-ecoms.eu ECOMS] consortium). A reduced set of global post-processed predictors from ERA-Interim for statistical downscaling purposes (work in progress to include hires observational gridded datasets over different european regions).      13The use of UDG requires [http://www.meteo.unican.es/udg-tap registration]. Access to data is obtained after requesting membership to the different groups. The data in the PUBLIC_DATA group is freely available to anyone (automatic membership authorization upon request). The data for particular groups/projects requires membership to the particular projects (moderated membership authorization). Besides the web services for subset data downloading, different R and Matlab packages have been developed to remotely access the different datasets.

     19The group also supports a node of the <b>Earth System Grid Federation (ESGF)</b> which builds on the UDG-TDS and provides EURO-CORDEX simulations using the WRF model.
